PDO Thread Lift

Threading facelifts (aka thread lifts) are facelifts that utilize threads to promote lifting. Suitable for both men and women, thread
lift is a minimally invasive procedure where suture-like threads are expertly placed beneath the skin with a cannula to provide an immediate lift or volumizing effect to lax skin on the face, neck, or body.

Made from a biodegradable polymer, PDO threads work two-fold by providing an immediate lift and stimulating collagen production. Over time, the threads gradually dissolve beneath the skin.

PDO Threads are FDA-cleared and have an excellent safety profile. The sutures used for thread lifting have been used for over 30 years in other procedures like open-heart surgery, making them safe to introduce to the body with very minimal side effects.

Thread Lift Treatment Areas

Thread Lift treatments are very versatile and are completely customizable. They can also be done in conjunction with dermal fillers on the same visit to address areas that could benefit from a less hollow look and compliment the thread lift. Dr. John Laura’s clinic will help you to find just the right balance for a natural, youthful effect.

Neck Lift with Threads

For many patients, the neck can be even more prone to show aging signs than the face. The neck region is a perfect example of how skin in an exposed area loses elasticity and smoothness, suffering from textural changes with wrinkled blotchy, loose, sagging skin; increase in neck volume with platysmal bands and Venus rings; and/or blunting of the cervicomental angle.

Thread lifts can have a marked and dramatic effect on the neck. In addition, we can combine complimentary treatments to bring out a more youthful jawline or reduce fat in a double chin prior to the neck lift.

Nose Lift with Threads

Enhancing the shape of the nose using thread lift is becoming more and more popular as advanced thread techniques have evolved. Using a combination of thread lift with filler, the spine of the nose can be lengthened, a downward pointing tip can be lifted and the length of the nose straightened.

What is the Procedure for Thread Lift Like?

Your practitioner identifies the areas of sagging skin and marks out where each thread will be placed.

Local anesthetic injections are administered in the areas where the threads will be inserted.

Your practitioner inserts the threads underneath your skin using a cannula. The threads are very fine and have small, cone-like structures running along their length.

The insertion of the threads is painless for some whereas others describe the sensation as ‘painful but tolerable’.

The threads are shaped and molded into place before being pulled back and tightened. The cone-like structures latch onto skin tissue and re-suspend sagging areas.

The threads are then trimmed to ensure they’re secure and invisible inside the skin.

A thread lift procedure usually takes between 30 and 45 mins. Downtime is minimal but depends on each patient. Most patients are able to resume normal activities the same day or by the next day after the treatment. Side effects are also minimal and include mild tenderness, swelling and bruising which should subside after a day or two.

Benefits of PDO Thread Lift

There are no non-surgical treatments available that can provide as dramatic of a change in the look of the face as a Thread lift. Thread lifts have filled a major role in our ability to provide dramatic anti-aging results without a scalpel. Non-surgical options have leaned heavily on Neurotoxins and fillers for years to create a softer and fuller look. But these can not replace the physical lift of a surgical face lift. Thread lifts address that need without the need for a traditional face lift from a plastic surgeon.

The advantage to Thread lift procedures can be seen especially for those who use filler for a lifted cheek structure. Often, patients who over-relied on fillers for a higher cheek would easily end up with the over-filled or “chipmunk” look. This is because fillers can not lift tissues, only fill them.

Thread lift not only accomplishes the physical lift that gives jowls and cheeks a more youthful appearance, but it also produces an innovative way for your own collagen production to physically support that lift.

Who is an Eligible Candidate for Thread Lift?

People who want to avoid surgical procedures and wish to postpone the onset of facial aging may benefit from the PDO Thread Lift treatment. In general, the therapy is suitable for anybody seeking to increase the suppleness and texture of loose skin, including neck skin. It’s particularly good for individuals with mild to moderate jowls in the lower third of their face.

In general, men and women who have mild to moderate sagginess, wrinkles, and lines in the forehead, face, and/or neck are typically good candidates.

The patient must be in good general health as well as have reasonable expectations of the treatment. This procedure is most suitable for people who want to enhance their appearance in a non-surgical manner. While the results can be dramatic, thread lift is not a substitute for all surgical lift procedures.

How Long Does it Take? What About Recovery?

Thread lifts are performed in our office during a 1-2 hour appointment. To ensure best results it is recommended to avoid alcohol and blood thinning medications 1-2 days prior to treatment.

Pain post procedure is typically minor and can be alleviated with acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Ice and arnica cream may be used to relieve any mild swelling or bruising.

After your procedure is complete, there will be a feeling of tightness, some slight swelling, redness, possible bruising and inflammation. You’ve had a foreign substance threaded through your tissue to tighten it, so these feelings are normal. The sensations and swelling will dissipate over the coming week as the tissue heals and acclimates to its new addition.

You’ll see instant results from the physical lift, but there is more to come since collagen takes 2-3 months to generate fully. You can expect a complete recovery from your thread lift in no more than two weeks.

It’s important to get advice from your doctor on what activities to avoid as the tissue heals; for example, we recommend you avoid vigorous exercise and facial massage. Generally, we advise you to take care for a few weeks, but you can resume your regular (non-vigorous) activities straight away. Avoid anything likely to pull or dislodge the threads before they have a chance to embed in your tissue fully.

We suggest if you have a big event planned, book your thread lift well in advance to avoid any crossover during your recovery.

What Else Can I Do In Addition To Thread Lift?

PDO thread lifts can be combined with our other anti-aging treatments, such as laser treatments or dermal fillers, to restore a natural, more youthful appearance. This is especially true in the lower face, where a thread lift can be combined with injectable fillers for an enhanced anti-aging result.

How Long Will My Thread Lift Last?

The lasting effects depend on several factors and vary from patient to patient. Most thread lifts will last about 18 months or more.

While the threads are underneath the skin, your body produces new collagen in the treatment area. Eventually, the threads will dissolve after about six months, but the revitalized effects can last longer with proper maintenance and care.

For best results, we recommend coming back to see us for a follow-up appointment between 4 to 6 months so that we can evaluate advise you on a maintenance regimen.
